MASTERS PROGRAM IN ENGLISH
Conditions for Admission to study in the school year 2017/2018
The MA Program is designated for students with completed bachelor’s studies. Bachelor’s studies in the field of photography or visual arts is an advantage but not a prerequisite. All applicants should have a deep interest in photography in general, as well as in own original work in this media. The program offers an extension and intensification of the understanding of photography in practical, as well as theoretical areas of study and it prepares the students for a career of a professional photographer.
Length of study – 2 years (4 semesters)
All applicants for the Masters Program must submit a printed application form, project and art works to the FAMU Department of Photography (Smetanovo nábřeží 2, Praha 1, 116 65, Czech Republic) according to the following rules.
For the entrance exams in April you have to submit the application form by April 1st. Your portfolio has to be sent in a printed form by April 1st 2017.
For the entrance exams in September you have to submit the application form by August 15th and your project and art works must be submitted by August 15th.
Admission Procedure for the Masters Program
The following is to be submitted by the applicants to the Department of Photography for the Masters Program Admission Procedure:
1/ Exhibition series of 8-12 photographs
2/ Dummy of a photographic publication designed by the applicant
3/ Series of 8-20 photographs or inter-medial works on a selected theme
4/ Masters Project Proposal which includes:
· A biography and information about the student’s activities and studies;
· A choice of the studio where the applicant wants to study – Studio of Staged
Photography, Studio of Post-conceptual photography, Studio of Multimedia and Studio of Documentary Photography);
· Applicant’s letter of intent to study Photography
· Applicant’s basic idea about their Final Masters Program Work (both photographic and theoretical).
All the works will be discussed during the admission interview held in May or in September.
Returning of Works Presented
Applicants who have not been admitted may collect their works in 2 months after the admission procedure. After this date the Department does not store the works. Applicants admitted to the Department leave their works available at the Department of Photography for exhibition and study purposes for one academic year.
Terms of Academic Year 2017/2018:
Fall semester: September, 2017 – December, 2017
Spring semester: February, 2018 – May, 2018
Accommodation, Health Insurance and Visa: Not provided by FAMU. These are the responsibility of the student. FAMU provides accepted students with an Acceptance letter, which serves as one of the required visa application documents.
The tuition fee for the academic year is 8.700,- € (the mandatory VAT tax is included).
