ENTRANCE EXAMS TO BACHELOR STUDY 2020/2021
The Department of Photography at FAMU offers students a parallel bachelor program in the English language. The study is structured in a way that in the first two years of the bachelor program the students are introduced to all basic forms of photography subjects – both practical and theoretical. During the school year the students execute several comprehensive art projects under the leadership of their mentors. During the third year, the knowledge acquired is perfected and the students get ready for the bachelor exam, which consists of a practical, as well as a theoretical part.
The program also focuses on preparing students for MA studies in photographic or visual art disciplines.
The Bachelor program lasts 3 years (6 semesters).
The prerequisites for being accepted in the program include: interest in photography, talent demonstrated in an enclosed portfolio, the will to work on personal development, interest in and overview of the current cultural scene, as well as art history.
Eligibility: Minimum 18 years of age, with completed secondary school leaving examination. Student may submit or complete the secondary school leaving examination during the studies, otherwise the student will not be awarded a degree.
Tuittion fee: The tuition fee for the academic year is 8.700,- € (the mandatory VAT tax is included).

STEP 1: Application
Submit an Application form:
You will receive a code here – eight-digit number that you will continue to use.
Proceed according to the instructions, fill in the form, print, sign and send it.
Application deadline: June 10, 2020
Please send the application along with the following documents:
1) Structured CV + copy of the passport
Brief description of the applicant’s academic and artistic records. The CV must include the applicant’s telephone number, postal and email address
2) Motivation letter
Short personal essay on what the applicant expects from her/his studies as well as what the applicant believes she/he can contribute to the creative and intellectual environment of FAMU, and the reasons she/ he would like to come and study in Prague.
3) Confirmation or printscreen of the transfer of the application fee of 818 CZK / 31 EUR

4) Certified copy of the Secondary School Leaving Certificate and the transcript of records. If your certificate in any language other than English we require a certified English (or Czech) translation.
Note: Applicants in their final year of secondary school must provide a confirmation from school about the term of their final exam.
STEP 2: Portfolio
Portfolio deadline: March 31 2020 (your portfolio has to be sent in a printed form by April 5, 2020, the decisive factor is the date of the postal stamp)
Each part of your portfolio has to be packed in a separate envelope and labelled with the letters A, B, C or D and the number code corresponding to your application, in the following way:
A – Creative set of photos + eight-digit number code
Consists of 8-12 photographs of a maximum format 50×60 cm. The collection represents the artistic focus.
B –Creative set of photos (other than set A) + eight-digit number code
Any number of photographs with a maximum of 20 and maximum format 50×60 cm. The photographs have to be in one of the following genres: portrait, nude, scenery, city, still life, or document.
C – Dummy publication (creative artist´s book) or intermedia project videoart, objects, instalations etc.) + eight-digit number code
A dummy publication is a photographic illustration of a book, a photograph book, a diary with a distinctive visual component, etc. It can be processed in any way with individual graphical, possibly also typographical arrangement. The intermedia project must be submitted in MP4 format on flash drive.
D – Photography of still life + eight-digit number code
A technical photograph of a still life – 1 black and white photograph of 30×40 cm format, which primarily illustrates technical ability. It should be a photograph of an arranged still life of random objects from the daily or artificial world.
Applicants are allowed to submit only one photograph series for each part!
STEP 3: The Entrance Exams
After receiving your portfolio we will inform you about the details of the entrance exams by email.
All the works submitted will be evaluated by a Commission consisting of at least 5 teachers of the Department of Photography. The final results of the first round (ranking and a shortlist of applicants) are calculated by adding up the independent scores given by individual members of the Commission. The detailed rules are approved by the Commission prior to the Procedure.
Notification of the Results
Applicants will be notified of the 1st round results by email.
Applicants who pass the 1st round will be notified of the exact schedule of the 2nd round in advance by email. The 2nd round will last 1 day. 2nd round – The second round will take place last week in April 30, 2020
2nd round consists of the following:
Test of genaral knowledge of the rank of history a and theory of photography.
Conceptual assignment on the given theme.
Photographic assignment on the fiven theme.
Interview with the Admission Commission within which the applicants will defend the work submitted in the 1st round and present their motivation to study photography.
Method of Evaluation
The second round will be evaluated by a Commission consisting of at least 5 teachers of the Department of Photography. The final ranking of applicants and the number of admitted applicants will be determined by adding up the scores of individual members of the Commission from the 1st and 2nd rounds.
STEP 4: Decision of admission / non-admission
Notification of the Results
All applicants will be notified of the final results of the second round by email and by an official letter sent to them by the FAMU Student Studies Office.
Returning of Works Presented
Applicants who have not been admitted may collect their works in 2 months after the admission procedure. After this date the Department does not store the works. Applicants admitted to the Department leave their works available at the Department of Photography for exhibition and study purposes for one academic year.

Please note that in order to enroll in Bachelor’s program for academic year 2019/2020 you will need to provide a recognition of foreign education certificate by 1 October 2019. For further information about the procedure please visit https://www.famu.cz/cs/studium/studijni-oddeleni/recognition-foreign-education/. We will be of assistance after your arrival.
Accommodation, Health Insurance and Visa: Not provided by FAMU. The capacity of the school dormitory is very limited. These are the responsibility of the student. FAMU provides accepted students with an Acceptance letter, which serves as one of the required visa application documents.
